About Us

VIVEK NAGAR is a small developing residential colony in Ambattur Old Township, Chennai in Tamil Nadu State, India - spread over an extent of 200 hectares. The total population of this colony as on January 2018 is 396 inclusive of 95 children.

It is encompassed by TI Matriculation Higher Secondary School campus on the Eastern and Southern sides, Cholambedu Road on the Northern side and Thiruvengada Nagar on the western side. The nearest land mark for Vivek Nagar is the famous St. Joseph's Church, Cholambedu Road. Ambattur Railway Station &Tirumullaivayil Railway Station are the nearby railway stations to Vivek Nagar giving connectivity to various places across city.

The Ambattur OT bus stand is just within a kilometre from here. Two Higher Secondary schools namely:
1) Samuel Harris Matriculation Higher Secondary School &
2) TI Matriculation Higher Secondary School
are located in its vicinity. Besides, there is also a Play School “B J Future School”for kids in Vivek Nagar. Vivek Nagar has become very prominent and popular due to the calm and serene living it provides to the inhabitants. As all the roads end up with dead end, no outside vehicle users generally make use of the roads, thus avoiding traffic congestion and traffic snarls. This is a great boon to the residents of Vivek Nagar. This provides the feel of a ‘gated community’ to the residents. Krishnapuram and Thiruvengadanagar residential colonies are located in the neighbourhood, within just a kilometre.

There are recreation parks in both these colonies. These parks are admirably maintained by the Corporation of Chennai. Due to this the Vivek Nagar residents never have to feel that they do not have a separate park of their own for their children to play. The Chennai Metro Water Supply and Sewage Board has constructed a massive overhead tank in Vivek Nagar in the eastern end. The tank has a capacity of litres, catering to the drinking water needs of thousands of residents living across Ambattur Old Township. The Vivek Nagar, originally named as EDEN GARDEN, was subsequently rechristened as VIVEK NAGAR, by the residents associations to ensure secularism. Back in 1983, it was routine for the residents here to wade through knee-deep water collected on the roads. The streets used to get inundated by rain waters even during small rains. There were no proper roads, no proper street lights during the initial stages of formation. Due to the painstaking, collective efforts of the residents and the Residents’ association, our Vivek Nagar has undergone a great transformation and has become a full-fledged Residential Colony. The roads are completely tarred and illuminated by LED lights.

There are totally 122 residences now in Vivek Nagar and three main roads interconnecting them. This includes 9 apartments comprising 77 households and 28 individual houses comprising 45 households. A WhatsApp group for the members of the Vivek Nagar was formed on 2-2-2015 with hardly 15 to 20 members. Now we are having about 82 members in this group. We use this forum for greeting all our members on their birthdays.
